5 Self Care Tips for The Entrepreneur
It goes without saying that these times we’re living through are leaving many of us feeling deflated, overwhelmed, and at times, down right defeated. And yet, so many of our Printed Minters are beacons of light — so full of hope, constantly spreading cheer and getting the darn things done with a smile on their face.
We recently read an article where licensed graduate professional counselor, Darrah Ferguson, reminded us to check on the strong friends in our lives and that’s exactly what we wanted to do today.
So before we go into any self care tips: How are you? What do you need to get off of your chest? Anything we can do to better serve our Printed Mint fam? Let us know in the comments, or if you feel better sending along a private note, jet us a DM or email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Self Care Tip #1: Set a Technology Timer
As business owners, it’s easy to consume more media than most. Whether it be scrolling Instagram, posting to your business Facebook page (and then suddenly spending two hours down a timeline rabbit hole), or clicking over from your inbox to another New York Times article, it’s important to set boundaries around technology use.
Plus, setting a countdown timer on our phones even turns it into a bit of a game! How quickly can we answer our morning emails? How many Instagram Stories can we schedule in a 10-minute window before we set-up shop?
Self Care Tip #2: Get Active
Getting active doesn’t have to mean going to the gym or back into the Pilates studio if that doesn’t match your comfort level! Adding some exercise into your day can be as easy as committing to a 15-minute walk before and after your work day, doing a 10-minute YouTube workout video every hour, or meeting up with a friend once a week for an outdoor tennis match. The best exercise routine is the one that makes you happiest!
And the benefits? Well, we’ll let Mayo Clinic speak on that one,
Regular exercise can increase self-confidence, improve your mood, help you relax, and lower symptoms of mild depression and anxiety. Exercise can also improve your sleep, which is often disrupted by stress, depression and anxiety.
Self Care Tip #3: Set Realistic Goals
If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you know we love setting goals (and giving our top tips for how to achieve them!) but something that has been crucial for us during this time — both personally and professionally — is keeping in mind that there is a lot going on + to keep giving ourselves grace where needed.
And absolutely need something done but can’t seem to find the hours in the day? Delegate.
Self Care Tip #4: Remember To Say “No”
As entrepreneurs it’s often embedded into our brains to say “yes” to every opportunity that comes along and take the bull by the horns. But what’s more magical? The power in saying “no.” Like we said above, it’s important to give yourself grace and your time is valuable. When deciding between X + Y. Ask yourself, “Does this get me excited?” “If I don’t do it, will future me regret it?” Those are two questions that usually help us get clear.
Self Care Tip #5: Make Time For Yourself
When you work for yourself, the lines are often blurred — where does your “you” time start + your “work day” end? However, it’s important to make clear cut time for yourself to take part in your hobbies, spend time with family and friends and even veg out on your couch catching up on that episode of The Bachelor that you missed! You are the most important asset your business has, and you should be treated as such.
