5 Ways to Jumpstart Your Morning

Mornings — they can be tough, yeah? We envy the people who wake-up with the birds, chipper + seemingly not even needing the double-shot Americano you just picked-up at Starbucks. The good news is this: You don’t need to be a morning person by nature! Simply doing these 5 things every morning have helped us become energized, excited for the day ahead + ready to tackle whatever comes our way.

1. Set Your Alarm Across The Room

It has done wonders not having our phones on our nightstands at night. Not only does it mean we’re no longer getting bright lights in our face when our bodies are supposed to be finding its REM sleep mode (the deep sleep that actually leaves you feeling rested) it makes us get up to turn-off our alarms in the morning. Gone are the days of hitting snooze a million times.


2. Jumping Jacks

The mornings we fit in our workout is a complete game changer. Don’t have time for a whole gym sesh before you dive into your work day? Don’t sweat it! Or do…while doing a few jumping jacks. Doing a series of 100 jumping jacks get our hearts rate up and naturally invigorate our bodies — no second cup of coffee needed.


3. Start a Morning Ritual

We’ve discovered that having something small we can look forward to every morning is a good way to kick start the day. For instance, instead of jumping right into the shower or answering emails, read a chapter of a book you love, do a 15-minute meditation, make some morning tea + put on a happy playlist. It’s the little things in life.


4. No Screen Time

This goes back to the phone thing but after we turn off the alarm, it’s no screen time until we open up our laptops to start work. We found that when our minds aren’t filled with random tidbits we’ve read on social media, stressed with texts from friends, etc, our creativity spikes. When creativity spikes, magic happens! Don’t think you’ll be able to turn off the alarm without immediately checking everything else? Get digital + buy an alarm clock.


5. Eat Breakfast

As people that don’t absolutely love breakfast (let’s talk brunch, though) we get why you may have just sighed at this tip. But honestly, it’s been a game changer in our days. We feel like we could conquer the world...and not hungry for lunch by 10am when we eat breakfast! Oatmeal, egg whites with tomato + spinach and peanut butter on whole wheat toast are a few favorites.
