5 Ways to Stay Cozy This Holiday Break
If you plan on taking a break from work this holiday season (which we sincerely hope all of our lovely Printed Minters are!) and are wondering, “What on Earth will I do with all of this free time?” You’re not alone! While we highly encourage some days to do whatever you feel called to, if you’re a person that could use some structure, may we recommend a few of these cozy activities to get in some R&R?
1. Start a Morning Routine
If you’re someone that likes to add routine into their days off of work while keeping cozy, may we recommend starting your ideal morning routine? This can look like reading a little in the morning, followed by a slowly sipped cup of coffee and a hot shower or it can look like going on a walk with your dog and coming home to brew a pot of your favorite tea. And if you fall off the wagon, that’s okay! This time away from work is meant to be a restorative practice just for you.
2. Dig Into a Hobby
Always dreamt of finishing that crochet project or finally getting around to Gordon Ramsey’s Masterclass on how to perfect a beef wellington? Now is the time! And if you have elementary school aged kiddos around, may we suggest dedicating an hour to independent play and stocking-up on a craft or two they can do while you make time for your ventures?
3. Read a “Can’t Put It Down” Thriller
Many say when you’re in a reading rut to get back into reading fiction you should pick-up a thriller so you feel compelled to see how it ends — and therefore keep reading on and on! If that’s you and the idea of snuggling up with a cup of cocoa and a minky blanket sounds like paradise, we highly recommend The Last Thing He Told Me, The Silent Patient or The Guest List.
4. Participate In a Sound Bath
If you haven’t heard of a sound bath, they’re an experience a lot like meditating except you listen to sounds that vibrate at different frequencies as you sit or lie down. To find one, we suggest looking into yoga studios or other wellness spots in your area that may offer them live, or finding one on YouTube, lighting a candle and dropping-in to a state of relaxation with some deep breaths beforehand in the comfort of your home.
5. Take a Nature Walk
Did you know that taking walks in nature can both boost mental health and decrease cancer risk? It can, and we encourage you to get out into nature, breathe some fresh air and walk through local forest or mountain trails (if you’re in Phoenix like those of us at the Printed Mint HQ!) If you feel called, try to be as mindful as possible as you go along, what are you seeing? Hearing? Feeling? Mindfulness doesn’t have to be something you just thinking about while sitting still and saying, “Om.”
