#Girlboss Interview: Stephanie Lane
This month for our #girlboss series, we had the pleasure of interviewing Stephanie Lane of Creative Heart Press. Her items all speak to who she is — fun loving, classy + quality — and we can't wait for you all to get to know her too.
Take a peek:
What year did your start your business and what inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
I started my current business this year, 2018. I’m not sure exactly what inspired me to become an entrepreneur. I think it’s something that’s always just been a part of me! Even when I was a child, I would make friendship bracelets and sell them! They weren’t the fanciest things but when someone actually bought one, it made me feel happy knowing that I was able to provide them with a product that made them happy and brought them joy – and I got paid for it! ☺
Tell us about your brand (business name, products you sell + services you provide, and the market you serve.)
Creative Heart Press is a boutique brand of joyful products that add style to your life & inspiration to your heart! Currently my products include cute and inspirational tees, gold foil art prints, and mugs. Each of my products include messages of faith and inspiration. I plan to add a few more fun products between later this year and early next year.
How did you come to learn what you do? (self-taught, education, classes, books, mentors etc.)
Most of what I’ve learned about graphic design has been self-taught. Before I began using professional software, I would design using basic “desktop publishing” applications. Once I began one of my first full-time jobs after college, I began using Adobe applications and the rest was history. I only took one training class but everything else I learned was just from trial and error!
What has been the most rewarding phase of your career?
I honestly don’t think that I’ve reached that phase yet of my career. Overall, I would say that I do love when people praise my work and purchase one of my products. But I feel like I still have a ways to go before I get to that rewarding phase. ☺
What is the most challenging part about being an entrepreneur?
I think one of the most challenging parts about being an entrepreneur is how unpredictable each moment is! It’s sort of like flying in an airplane. You always hope for a smooth ride but you never know when you’ll have turbulence. Each time you board, you’re taking a risk. But overall, the risk is worth it once you reach your final destination.
What do you do for inspiration? Do you ever hit creative roadblocks and how to overcome them?
What’s the secret to your success (personally/professionally/spiritually)? Having a great support system – like my family and close friends – as well as my own tribe of other business owners. Sometimes when you’re in business, you may feel isolated or that no one else can relate to what you’re going through. It helps to have a circle of other entrepreneurs can encourage and uplift when you need it most and you can do the same for them!
What advice to you have for other entrepreneurs just starting out?
I would say have confidence in the product or service that you’re offering and be an expert at it. Also, focus on YOUR business and what makes YOU unique. Don’t feel as if you have to do things a certain way because someone else is doing it. Stand out and be great
What are you working on now and what’s in store for your business in 2019?
Right now, I am working on adding some additional products to my online shop…maybe some home décor items perhaps. ☺ And in 2019, I’d just like to increase my online following and continue to get the word out about Creative Heart Press!
