How to Create Your Dream Customer Avatar
You may be just starting out, or you might be a seasoned business owning veteran, no matter the case, it’s crucial that every company knows the ins and outs of their dream customer avatar. Reading this, you may be thinking, “Oh, I already have a dream customer!” but do you really know the ins and outs? The ups and downs they might be facing? What drives them to wake up every morning and how they prefer to wind down each night? If you squirmed in your seat a little bit and internally said, “Well maybe I could use a little help…” we have a couple of tips from our Marketing person on how to create a dream client avatar you can reference when creating social media posts, when jetting an email off and, of course, creating your next to-be-adored product offering.
Get out your notebook, and let’s get started!
1. Jot Down the Nitty Gritty
The nitty gritty are the attributes you probably have already thought of. Things like their age, where your buyer sits financially, their home life, where they are geographically and what they’d like to accomplish in the future. If you don’t know these things, good news! Now is a good a time as any to get rolling.
2. And Now Really Dive In…
This next one may seem excessive, you may even read what I’m asking you to do and audibly groan, but I can’t stress to you enough how critical this exercise has been in the success of creating my client’s dream avatars. Ready for it?
I want you to write no less than two full pages about your dream client. I want you to start with how they wake up: Are they waking-up in a king size bed, savoring the most luscious sheets they can find? Or are they ready to jump up and get their morning steps in while walking their dog with a protein shake? What apps do they enjoy using? What does their home look like? What products in their homes are they selective about and really take pride in? What do they do for fun? What do they constantly wish away? Do they dream of never having to organize their closet again? Do they yearn for days curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket that doesn’t shed all over the place? Think micro and macro.
And don’t forget to give them a name! Reference Jim, or Jessie, or Beatrice when creating anything for your company (yes, support scripts too!) and make sure everyone in your company has a copy of your dream customer avatar. After all, they’re the reason your business is around.
