How You Can Make a Difference In Your Business
Let’s start by saying this: It is so refreshing to be surrounded by businesses that truly want to make a difference and see the value in making efforts to make the world around them a better place. But it can also be totally overwhelming — especially if you’re just starting out. You hear about companies building schools for underprivileged youth, donating hundreds of thousands a year to worthwhile causes and taking on initiatives in far away locales and those companies are amazing. However, they aren’t the majority and there are loads of things your company can do to make a difference right now. Not sure what those things are?
Here are a few of our ideas…
1. Switch to Eco Friendly Packaging
A few months back the Printed Mint team made the decision to add Eco-Friendly packaging. We believe that a small change can make a significant difference and we are so glad we did! The war on plastic is real and being in the product based biz industry it’s companies like ours (and yours!) that have the power to fight it — one package at a time.
2. Sponsor a Local School Activity
Sponsorships are a great way to both help fund a local school’s football team or arts department and also get your name out in front of people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Not sure where the funds are going to come from? Take a 10% portion of each sale on a certain product and save it until you can afford to allocate it towards your chosen cause. And don’t forget: It’s a tax write off!
3. Have Competitive Wages
With many businesses always trying to save a buck, make a dent in the pay gap and boast competitive wages. Pay your employees fairly, offer benefits when able and be understanding when contractors have higher costs — you often pay for quality and that’s how they afford things like health and dental insurance. It’s often better to hire a few incredible employees that can take your business to the next level and pay them what they’re worth than a slew of employees getting paid minimum wage. And it feels better too.
