Create and Stick to A Plan
Doing much of anything in business requires a well thought out plan! This is especially important when sticking to and maintaining a brand voice. First, you should have a brand vision and plan to implement that vision into real life. Second, a plan for creating products and photos that are on-brand. Third, posting and engaging on social media in a (respectfully) branded way.
Constantly Inspire Yourself
Sticking to a brand voice is all about maintenance and consistency. To fuel your unique brand voice in a creative way, it’s important to constantly inspire yourself with the things that you love and what led your shop to be what it is today. A few inspirational things we love: window shop at our favorite stores, stroll through a bookstore, flip through old magazines, attend events with other inspiring business owners, spend quality time with loved ones, and indulge in top-rated podcasts/documentaries/or motivational Ted Talks.
Keep Reminders Everywhere
Part of keeping the inspiration alive is placing it in your physical vision. When flipping through those magazines or jotting down those helpful quotes, it’s so important to hang up the things that catch your eye and do so in places you’ll be able to see for the majority of the day. Simply hanging them with washi tape or trendy tacs gives a creative feel to your space and literally puts you in the place of your dreams. While we recommend doing this in your actual work place, it’s wonderful to see parts of your amazing brand throughout your home as well.
Maintain Some Relevancy
Staying on brand isn’t just about the dream you see, it’s also about the dream your audience sees. With each effort to present and expand your brand, be sure to include some relevancy. Research trends in the means of business, social media, marketing, style, fashion, and other trendy channels. Pay attention to these trends and how they can be implemented into your branding efforts. This will show your audience that you consider what they might be into and maintain a flow of intrigued new consumers too!
Make Sure Everyone’s on Board
As you grow your team, make sure each team member knows what kind of brand voice to portray and the best ways to do so on their end. We recommend developing a branding guide as part of the on-boarding process but also pay attention to whether they fit the brand voice in the beginning interview stages. Is their personality accommodating to the tasks they'll be handling? Could they be a great “face” for your shop when it comes to attending events and making sales? What kid of attitude (s) represent your brand well? These are all things to think about and put into action in a way that gets the whole team on board with the brand voice!
As you go through your branding journey, remember to keep one thing in mind: you are your brand voice and with a little bit of help, you’ll ultimately know what’s best for your brand and how to portray it.
