The Notorious GDPR

We're sure you've heard of this lovely phrase in the past few days. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will go into effect on May 25th 2018. While it's a European law, businesses and advertisers from any country (that have a part of their target audience in the EU) must comply. Simply put, it's a big new regulation for businesses and organizations and how they collect, use, and retain consumer data. So how can you make sure you're in compliance with this new regulation? Update your terms of service, privacy policy, and make sure that any outside service you use (website builder, email marketing service, etc.) is also in compliance with the GDPR.

Facebook Page & Ad Transparency

With the recent Facebook pandemonium, it seems like the tone has been set for business pages in an authentic, trustworthy way. While there are new ad restrictions for larger-scale business pages, the most impactful limitations really only apply to the pages that do not qualify as a real business page, aka, pages that are a little shady. So how is this good for your shop? It means that only relevant business pages will be able to post their most authentic information while still standing out to their respective niche. It's also a way to start a posting/advertising practice that is curated to your specific consumer audience.

Instagram Profile Updates

As of early 2018, Instagram blessed us with story features and other profile-personalization options. You know those little circles that are now on every account's profile? Those are features and they were created specifically for business accounts (the favored Instagram account as far as the wonderful algorithm) to highlight key information about people's brands and business. You can design your own cover photos for each feature (a great branding op!) and save relative photos to each once. Simply add a branded hashtag and tag a sister company in your bio and your Instagram page turns into a full-on branded bio page!
