Ways to Infuse Creativity Into Your Everyday
In our experience, most shop owners are creative folks who design gorgeous items and generally have a knack for artistic expression. Then, the business side comes in. There are invoices to be paid, social media marketing campaigns to be managed and customer support emails to get back to — before they know it, it becomes harder to tap into that creative well. This is something that we’ve personally experienced and we’ve become quite good (we’d say!) at infusing creativity into our everyday life.
Here’s how we do it…
1. Give Yourself Space
For some, that’s 15-minutes of uninterrupted meditation every morning, a solo walk around the block or even some time spent lying on your bed in the morning just staring into space letting yourself get a little bored. No matter what that looks like, we’ve found that creating space for ourselves to dream and get new ideas was critical to the health of our creativity process.
2. An Artist Date
Julia Cameron talks about the concept of the artist date in her bestselling book, The Artist’s Way. The idea is that once a week you go on a solo “date” by yourself to seek inspiration. It can look like going to an art museum, strolling through your favorite local garden or even setting-up shop to paint for an hour in your living room.
3. Get Moving
For us, moving each day is a big part of our creative mojo. Running through a park near our house, doing a seated stretch on YouTube during our lunch break, or even just walking up the stairs a few times can do a lot.
